Colleagues shower departing Stelmach with respect and admiration
Emotional last day in legislature for premier

EDMONTON - Alberta politicians of all stripes joined together
Thursday to celebrate Ed Stelmach’s quarter century of public service
and four years as premier of Alberta.
Stelmach blinked back tears
as others paid tribute to him, occasionally pulling off his glasses and
wiping his eyes with the back of his hands.

Alberta Tories widen lead: poll
No indication Stelmach decision played role in push further ahead of Wildrose Alliance

As the Progressive Conservatives search for a successor to Premier Ed Stelmach, a new poll finds the governing party has opened a commanding lead in popular support over the rival Wildrose Alliance.
The survey also reports no significant change in the Tories' fortunes before or after Stelmach's surprise resignation on Jan. 25, while placing the party well ahead of its main challengers.
